The Power of Black and White

AG3A4661I have always loved black and white photography.  Perhaps because so many of my mom’s photos of us kids were black and white.  Who knows?  I just know that I love the shadows and the textures in a good black and white edit.  Ted Grant said, “When you photograph people  in color, you photograph their clothes, but when you photograph in black and white, you photograph their souls.”  I agree completely, Ted!AG3A35920280.4.jpg-15AG3A3836-2AG3A4597-3IMG_15130280.4.jpg-2With black and white, you are forced to see the world in a different way.  There are no pretty colors.  Just light, shape, and form.  The details jump out at you.  Don’t get me wrong … I LOVE color!  But there’s just something special about black and white.  IMG_17460280.4.jpgIMG_55650280.4.jpgIMG_99350280.4.jpgIMG_55630280.4.jpg-2AG3A15390280.4.jpg-2 2  And my favorite … an old photo of my mom from 1949 (with her eyes closed!) in front of my grandfather’s truck.   How cute was she??

thumb_IMG_2026_1024I love b/w portraits and landscapes, and even the occasional flower, but my favorite shots are from lifestyle shoots.  Families just being families.   Black and white shots are always included in the files I deliver. IMG_37120280.4.jpgIMG_23630280.4.jpgAG3A4716-2
